People Search I have divided People Search into two units: 1. List of inhabitants of Niemaschkleba 1945 before the displacement The list of inhabitants in 1945 has been drafted from the sources below in the order of importance and does not claim to be exhaustive. Many inhabitants out of the home town register were listed without their houses’ number, therefore could not yet be completely matched with resp. families. This however might be possible after evaluation of Niemaschkleba’s civil registry office data since 1874 for births, marriages and deaths, which might be accessible at the country archive in Berlin as of 2016.  The home town register (HOK for Heimatortskartei) of the State Archive in Bayreuth consists of index cards with handwritten entries. Most of the index cards have a preprint reading “home address 1 September 1939”. However, I have found entries from 1945 until the 1990s. The statements in the HOK are neither always complete nor correct, this probably resulting from oral tradition. Therefore, I have used the HOK as basis for the inhabitants list of 1945 and have added information coming from higher priority levels such as the files for equalization of burdens, eg. Throughout the HOK data, Lindenhain is used as place of birth with is not correct. Until 1935 the place was called Niemaschkleba and only after 1935 it became Lindenhain. However, for reasons of clarity, I decided to call it Lindenhain, even when the resp. person was born before 1935 and therefore, the place of birth should have been called Niemaschkleba. Also, the HOK uses new addresses after 1945. Although these have been assumed for the list of inhabitants, these addresses might not necessarily be the last/latest address. Hence, if I found another last address, I have added it to my list.  Sources for the list of inhabitants in 1945 1.     Personal specifications of former inhabitants or their descendants and/or their ancestors’ list 2.     Files for the equalization of burdens, State Archive in Bayreuth 3.     Closed cadastral register, Brandenburg’s Main Country Archive (BLHA) in Potsdam 4.     Persons killed in action during World War II, German War Graves Commission 5.     Personal data of the local historian Erich Müller, Archive in Guben 6.     Home town register (HOK) of the State Archive in Bayreuth 7.     List of the kidnapped, untraceable and missing persons I have deducted out of the HOK, State Archive in Bayreuth 8.     Different pieces of information on members of Guben’s Heimatbund from various volumes of Guben’s Heimat letter 9.     List of inhabitants of Niemaschkleba 1945 from Anni Eisler, born Türke, dated March 1988 Click here to see the list of inhabitants 2. List of inhabitants of Niemaschkleba from 1664 to 1945 I have added several pieces of more ancient personal data to the list of inhabitants of 1945, for example:   a)     The evaluation of the church register of Niemaschkleba from 1664 – 1797 with births, marriages and deaths. This evaluation is not yet completed, data will be updated from time to time. The church register after 1797 was lost in the chaos caused by World War II, its data no longer being at common disposal. b)     The evaluation of the cadastral register which partly goes back to 1770. This evaluation also is not yet completed. Important to know is that data based on these files (like testaments, heritage settlement etc.) will only reveal the resp. Land owners and their families, however not other residents like farm laborers, handmaids and tenants. c)     The evaluation of data coming from the civil registry office – which started in 1874 - is not yet completed. d)     The evaluation of the emigration documents, eg passenger lists from Hamburg 1850 – 1934, passenger lists New York 1820 – 1957 as well as a great number of other documents.   All this data is shown in a special form/program which enables you to find ancestors and descendants as well as resp. degrees of relationships for the person you are looking for.
